Full Moon in Cancer
January 6, 2023 at 3:08 PST
Illuminate, Release, Healing

With the New Year 2023 there will be a slight change to this monthly posting. We have gone through several years of New Moon posting and now, starting with January 2023, it will be about the Full Moons, which is a very different energy than New Moons. The Full Moon meaning will be generally the same each month on a base level, but with unique additional energies depending on which sign it is occurring in.

Just as Full Moons illuminate, you are seeing things more clearly in your life. It is a time of culmination, fruition, releasing, welcoming closure, and allowing things to complete. It can also make you feel things more intensely, which can be good or bad, depending on your state of mind when the full moon rises.

A Full Moon is the most powerful of moons filled with heightened emotions to help you understand what is causing disruptions in your life so you can let go of patterns, endeavors, or relationships that are no longer serving you and your highest good, and are the best time to take inventory of what no longer serves you and where you can make more space for something better to come in.
From Dec 22-Jan 21st, the Sun is in the sign of Capricorn and the first Full Moon of 2023 falls in the sign of Cancer. This lunation peels back layers of protection which you have carefully accumulated over the years in several areas including your inner life and family relationships and deals with the balance between the private life, domesticity, the need for a home base, and nurturing (represented by Cancer) versus the public life, career, reputation, and accountability (represented by Capricorn). You could be feeling empowered to shake up how you’re managing your work-life balance or open up about deep-rooted emotions within your closest personal and professional relationships. Growth is inevitable into 2023, and this Full Moon appears to be the catalyst.
This Full Moon asks you to address healing deep-seated wounds from the past that are hindering your growth. Don't continue to put off what you know must be handled. Time to clear up past patterns that have been holding you back from personal fulfillment, particularly those that are home or family-centered or that revolve around work-home balance and attitudes toward comfort and responsibility. Over the years, you have gained a lot of insights from prior lessons and relationships so now would be the time to really focus on your emotional needs and explore how family dynamics from the past and your reactions to them are shaping your present situations and challenges, because some of your closest and oldest attachments — especially to loved ones — are helping or hindering your growth and balance.
No matter your age, this Full Moon shines her light on ways in which you continue to act out your childhood and find yourself replicating patterns of what others may have said or done to you. It’s up to you to decide which of these to carry forward or to cut. If you are planning to address or confront these issues with others, emotions are always heightened around the time of a Full Moon so use as much tact as possible since people can be quick to respond defensively and may resort to fight-or-flight modes.

Release the expectation of knowing all the answers so you can be open to embracing varying views. Be curious and adaptable especially in terms of how you’re relating to others while working on setting healthy boundaries. This could have you seeing situations in an illuminating new way and tackling them from in different ways and approaches.

Accept all the parts of yourself. This lunation reminds your that you don’t need to overexplain who you are, what or how you look like, or what you enjoy – and that you need to stop justifying those things or worse, apologizing for them. Everything you’ve experienced has created the unique, quirky, and wonderful person that is you today. Truly believe that it is a privilege for others to know and love you.
This Full Moon is a time to consider ways to bring more alignment into your life.
Ask yourself:
“What is no longer in alignment with who you truly are?”
“Where do you need to establish better boundaries?”
“How are you dimming your light in order to fit in”
and
“At the end of the day, what matters to me the most is…”
and see what answers and inspiration follow because
it is a good time to remind yourself of what is important and what you truly care about.
Joyful and Peaceful Blessings,
Lisa Luna
